Movie: A Year in Champagne (2014)
Film Synopsis:
An exploding cork. Endless tiny bubbles floated up and up in the glass. Pleasure. Celebration. Seduction. Victory. This is the essence of champagne, right? But its not just the bubbles in the glass that make wine, or its mystique. Only sparkling wine produced within the boundaries of the Champagne region is truly “champagne.” At first glance, this region is not an obvious source of romance. Champagnes history is grim and bloody, swept by war and destruction from Attila the Hun to the dirty trenches of World War I and the Nazi Village of World War II. The environment for winemaking is very difficult - northern latitudes, calcareous soil, excessive rain, frost, rot. But it is these difficulties that help make the wine unique.
