Movie: Creature (1998)
Film Synopsis:
The film begins with Richland (Feore), who is sent to visit a government facility on a remote island. He follows Peniston (Esposito) into the facility. Chief scientist Dr. Bishop (Reineke) shows them the projects he is working on, including a hybrid shark and dolphin with the ability to adapt to any environment, as well as a human and shark (creature) hybrid. It breaks free from the tank and kills Dr. Bishop. Richland orders Peniston to kill it, but Peniston instead traps the creature in a containment unit and dumps it in the ocean. 25 years later... dr. Chase (Nelson), a marine biologist, and his assistant, Tall Man (Williams), discover a pregnant female great white shark trapped in Ben Medieras (Alyward) net. Chase frees him. Meanwhile, a local fisherman, Puckett (Burke), retrieves the containment unit and accidentally releases the creature. Mediera is then eaten by the creature. Chase & Tall Man meet Dr. Macy (Cattrall), her sea lion named Robin, and Dr. Chase, Max (Carey), at the airport. When Dr. Chase & Dr. Macy prepares to go out on the ocean, Max goes to town. He meets the native children including Elizabeth (Echikunwoke), the chiefs daughter. Local boys told him that he had to take a courage test and jump from a high cliff. Medieras body was discovered and Police Chief Gibson asked Dr. Chase to examine the body. Chase says even though there is a great white out there its not the culprit and tells the chief not to let people chase innocent sharks. Chase and Dr. Macy leaves and prepares to go out and find the real culprit. A tall man arrives, escorted by his girlfriend, Tauna (Michele). Peniston, who has gone insane and is called a Werewolf by the locals, sees the empty containment unit after Puckett takes him ashore. He realizes Mediera wasnt killed by the shark. Dr. Chase and Dr. Macy is unable to find the creature and returns to Dr. Chase (formerly the research facility where the creature was born). Dr. Macy reveals Dr. Chase why the Sharks dont have cancer, which his best friend thinks. Meanwhile the children take turns jumping off the cliff, unaware that the creature is hiding right beneath them. Max and a boy named Kimo jumped in. The creature Mauls Kimo to death, but Max escapes. When Kimos body was discovered, the chief was angry and, no longer listening to Dr. Chase, orders all the fishermen to hunt the great white. The Islanders, including Puckett, accuse Chase and Macy of casting magic on the shark. Dr. Chase, Dr. Macy, Max and Tall Man search for the creature again; this time with success. The creature attacks their boat, but they escape. By this time, Puckett has killed the Great White and the islanders celebrate, believing that the danger is past. Dr. Chase tells the chief that they are not safe and that he has seen the creature. However, the chief refused to believe it. They conducted research at Dr. Chase, and soon connected with Richland. Richland told Dr. Chase to do nothing until he arrives. Chase argues that more people could die if they dont take action but Richland doesnt care. Richland and a squad of Navy Seals boarded a helicopter and departed for the island. Chase ignores Richlands warning and returns to his ship. Peniston uses the horns to attract the creature, which is attracted to the noise. The creature attacks him, but Dr. Chase and friends rescue him. They took him back to their base. The next day Dr. Chase finds claw marks on his boat (proof of his theory about the great whites innocence). Later, Peniston shows them a secret tunnel that leads to the actual research facility. Meanwhile, Richland and The Seals approach the island in their helicopter. Dr. Chase and Dr. Macy goes into the tunnel and finds it half flooded, most likely connected to the ocean. They also found equipment and records. They find some of Pucketts traps and wonder how they got there. By the time they realized who had taken them, it was too late: the creature ambushed them. They ran and the creature gave chase, but could only go so far until it could not catch up because its arms and legs were short and weak from the water. It stopped and expanded its arms and legs until they were human-like. The creature continued the chase. The Doctor and his friends manage to escape and revive the tunnel blocking the creature. They left the research facility by boat. The creature attacks them when they reach the dock. This will kill Max, but then leave him alive. Macy goes to the town doctor and says she has claw wounds. Chase discusses the meeting with Chief Gibson, but he still refuses to believe it. They decide to send Max back to the states. Elizabeth stops him and says that she cant find her cousin. Elizabeth claims the only place she belongs is at the old rum factory (which is now used as a club and a place for teenagers to go). They then went to find him. Puckett goes diving and is killed by the creature. Dr. Chase, Dr. Macy, and Peniston return to headquarters only to be ambushed by Richland and his thugs. He sends some of his cronies to explore the tunnels. Meanwhile, Max & Elizabeth find an old rum factory in the swamp. They go in, but dont find the cousin, only Tauna. They head outside to look at the swamp when suddenly a mans head floats to the surface. Max recognizes him as Puckett. They run away, but the creature jumps out of a tree and chases them. Chase checks the items in the tunnel but Richland destroys them and threatens Chase. The kids manage to reach Taunas house and hide and contact Dr. Chase. Before he can return, the creature attacks the house. When he arrived, he found the house in ruins and believed the children were dead, but they came out of their hiding place. Chief Gibons soon arrives and Elizabeth tells him that the creature exists. He finally accepted the existence of the beast. Chief and Richland lead a hunt for the creatures in the swamp. Chase goes with them and exposes Richland as one of the people present at the original event. He said how Richlands cover-up put people at risk. Richland threatened to kill him, but the chief stopped him. The creature attacks and kills Richlands troops. The head fell into the water. But instead of saving it, Richland just watched hoping the creature would go for the head so he could kill it and finally settle his score. Chase saves the head. The creature obliterates the bridge on which Richland was standing. He falls into the water where the creature eats him. Dr. Chase and Chief Escape and make it back to town the next day. There, the head is reunited with Elizabeth and finally understands and accepts Dr. Chase as a good person. Chase, Tall Man, Max, and Dr. Macys returns to base where Peniston is waiting. Macy realized he was there. She angrily asks him why he didnt kill the creature. Peniston replies that it is because they used his blood to help create it and that the creature is a part of him. They use a Robin with a camera attached to it to find the creature. It locates the beasts lair, but before they can take it, the creature attacks and the camera goes blank. Tall Man & Peniston enter the tunnel shortly after. The tall man shoots the creature but Peniston interferes. The creature injures the tall man. Chase arrives and helps the tall man escape, but is chased by the creature. The creature quickly climbs up and almost kills Chase. Max uses Penistons sound device to destroy the creature. It attacks him, but he uses a zipline to escape. Peniston takes the sound device and lures the creature into a pressure chamber. Chase locked onto them and activated them, building greater and greater pressure. The creature kills Peniston. Chase allows the pressure to build up very high then destroys the window causing all the air to escape. This causes explosive decompression and the creature explodes, ultimately killing it.
