Movie: Dark Command (1940)
Film Synopsis:
When transplanted Texan Bob Seton arrives in Lawrence, Kansas he finds a lot to like about the place, especially Mary McCloud, the local bankers daughter. Politics is in the air. It was just before the Civil War and there were already sharp divisions in the region as to whether it would remain free of slaves. When he got the chance to run for Marshal, Seton found himself running against respected local schoolteacher William Cantrell. However, it is not what it seems. While acting as a prominent citizen in public, Cantrell was highly ambitious and prepared to do anything to make his mark, and his fortune, in the region. When he lost the race for Marshal, he formed a band of raiders who ran guns into the region and robbed and terrorized settlers throughout the region.
