Movie: Endgame (2009)
Film Synopsis:
The time is the late 80s, an important period in South African history. President P.W. Botha held on to power by a thread when the African National Congress (ANC) took up arms against apartheid and the country fell towards rebellion. The British mining concerns were convinced that their interests would be better served in a stable South Africa and they quietly sent Michael Young, their head of public affairs, to open an informal dialogue between the bitter rivals. Assembling a reluctant but brilliant team to pave the way for reconciliation in the face of obstacles that at first seemed insurmountable, Young placed his trust in ANC leader Thabo Mbeki and Afrikaner philosopher Professor Willie Esterhuyse. It is their empathy that will ultimately serve as a catalyst for change by proving more powerful than the terrorist bombs that threaten to disrupt peaceful dialogue.
