Film Synopsis:
After living through the traumatic events of World War II, Pastor Lankester Merrin takes a sabbatical from the church to conduct an archaeological dig in British-run East Africa. Merrin excavates an ancient Byzantine church believed to have been built and then immediately buried to keep evil from the crypts below. The natives were convinced that exposing the church had released demons, and began clashing violently with British military forces.
