Movie: Impact (2009)
Film Synopsis:
While the whole world watches the largest meteor shower in 10,000 years, a rogue asteroid, hidden by a meteor field, crashes into the moon in a tremendous explosion of rock and debris . Fragments from asteroids, and even from the moon itself, penetrate Earths atmosphere and make impacts. Although the initial damage was minimal, the nerves were frayed all over the planet. There was significant physical damage to the lunar surface, but experts quickly concluded there would be no lasting consequences. Then strange anomalies began to manifest themselves on earth. These range from minor cell phone interference, unusual static charges and strange tidal behavior. The worlds leading scientists, including Alex Kittner, Maddie Rhodes and Roland Emerson, began piecing together evidence that suggested the moons properties, and its orbit, may have been irreversibly altered. Their fears are realized when the anomaly increases to the point where "simulated" gravitational effects are being manipulated by increasing electromagnetic surges coming from the moon. People, cars, and other objects are momentarily rendered weightless in random and isolated ways around the world. Alex, Maddie, Roland and the rest of their team soon discover something much worse – the moons new orbit has put it on a collision course with Earth! The world now has 39 days to stop it or the earth, and all of humanity, will perish. After a failed attempt by the United States to destroy the moon, our heroes unite all the worlds nations in one last hope for humanity - an international mission to the moon itself where astronauts will attempt to reverse the magnetic effects and restore the moon to its original orbit. Alex, whose children are now missing after the latest anti-gravity rampage, is emotionally torn as he must now join Roland and two other astronauts on an Earth-saving mission to outer space.
