Movie: Jago A Life Underwater (2015)
Film Synopsis:
Jago tells the story of an 80 year old sea nomad named Rohani who has spent his life around the waters of Southeast Asias coral triangle. The story is told entirely from Rohanis point of view, against the spectacular backdrop of the Togia Islands, and recreates the events that captured the turning point in his life, as a hunter and as a man. We were able to bring Rohanis past experiences to life by working with his family and friends in the village where he grew up. These are the people you see representing Rohani in the film at various stages in his life. Storytelling is a big part of Bajau culture, and a way of preserving traditions from generation to generation, so everyone was very enthusiastic about what we were trying to do and brought a lot of ideas of their own, especially Rohani. While hes never had a camera pointed at him, it certainly wasnt the first time hed sat down to tell a story. Were just lucky that he let us catch it on film.
