Movie: The Lower Depths (1936)

Film Synopsis:
The residents of a flophouse struggle to survive under the harsh treatment imposed by the owner, Kostyleva. One resident, the young thief Wasska Pepel, ends his affair with the landowners wife, Vassilissa, and takes with her her sister, Natacha. Pepel also befriends the Baron, a former nobleman fallen on hard times, but Pepels quest for happiness is complicated when he is accused of murder by a spiteful Vassilissa.
