Movie: Black Jack (1979)
Film Synopsis:
In this exciting adventure in 1750s England, the great Frenchman Black Jack (Jean Franval) miraculously survives hanging by the British authorities in Yorkshire and escape from the grim jaws of "justice." He brings to the village in the company of Tolly, a teenage boy who is able to translate Black Jacks strange speech into something intelligible. They are joined by Belle, an aristocratic teenager who has escaped from the madhouse her family imprisoned her in when she became troublesome. Together, the three join the carnival. However, as it becomes clear that the girl is far from crazy, love between Tolly and Belle grows. This story, set in the mid-18th century, is based on the novel by Leon Garfield.
