Movie: Many Rivers to Cross (1955)
Film Synopsis:
Packaged and sold as an outdoor actioner, Many Rivers to Cross is a comedy as much as anything else. Robert Taylor stars as 18th century trapper Bushrod Gentry, who himself is caught in a marriage by the dashing Mary Stuart Cherne (Eleanor Parker). Fleeing his marital responsibilities (which impressed upon him the threat of death), the nobleman headed for the northern country, with Mary in hot pursuit. The hero and heroine spend the rest of the picture taking turns saving each other from hostile Indians. Some of the humor is based on the wholesale slaughter of the "Redskins", and is therefore a bit hard to take when viewed today. Supporting Taylor and Parker are Victor McLaglen as the heros burly father, and TV stars James Arness (Gunsmoke) and Russell Johnson and Alan Hale Jr. (Gilligans Island).
