Film Synopsis:
Marie Kroyer was hailed as "the most beautiful woman in Europe" and lived a happy married life with her husband the great Danish painter P.S. Kroyer and his adorable daughter. However, not everything in her perfect world is as it seems, and Maries life is shattered as her dreams of a loving wife, good mother and successful artist go unfulfilled. After the hospitalization of her mentally ill husband Marie goes on holiday, and in search of peace and comfort, she finds herself falling in love with the young composer Hugo Alfven. Once again, the internationally acclaimed Bille August shows human weakness rather than cruelty. Views of the deserted splendor of the Scandinavian seas speak volumes for the protagonists who live in silence despite their lives being filled with pain.
