Movie: The Sand Pebbles (1966)

Film Synopsis:
Engineer Jake Holman arrives aboard the battleship USS San Pablo, tasked with patrolling a tributary of the Yangtze in the midst of Chinas exploitation and 1926 revolution. His iconoclasm and cynical nature soon clash with the rice bowl system that manages the ships and the uneasy symbiosis between Chinese and foreigners on the river. Hostility to the warships presence reaches a climax when the ship must crash through a river-boom and rescue missionaries upstream on the China Light Mission.
