Film Synopsis:
Yuli is the nickname given to Carlos Acosta by his father, Pedro, who considered him the son of Ogun, an African god and a warrior. As a child Yuli avoided discipline and education, learning from the poor and abandoned streets of Havana. However, his father had other ideas, and knowing that his son had a natural talent for dancing, sent him to the National Ballet School of Cuba. Despite his repeated escapades and early bad behavior, the boy was definitely drawn to the world of dance, and began to shape his legendary career from a young age, becoming the first black dancer to be cast in some of ballets most prestigious roles, initially written for white dancers, in companies such as the Houston Ballet or the Royal Ballet in London.
