Film Synopsis:
Paul (MacFadyen), a prize-winning war journalist, returns to his remote New Zealand hometown due to the death of his father, battle-weary and world-weary. For disaffected sixteen year old Celia (Barclay) he opens up a world she only dreamed of. He actively pursues her friendship, fascinated by her cynicism and experience of the world outside her small town existence. But many people, including members of both their families (Otto, Moy), frown upon the friendship and when Celia goes missing, Paul becomes the increasingly hated and persecuted prime suspect in her disappearance. As the cruel and pressing truth gradually emerges, Paul is forced to confront the family tragedies and betrayals he endured as a young man, and face the sad consequences of the silence and secrecy that have surrounded his entire adult life.
