Movie: Mystery 101 An Education in Murder (2020)
Film Synopsis:
Schtonk! It was a joke of the actual events of 1983, when the German magazine Stern published, with great fanfare, 60 volumes of Adolf Hitlers alleged diaries - which two weeks later turned out to be completely fake. Fritz Knobel (based on real-life forger Konrad Kujau) supported himself by forging and selling Nazi memorabilia. When Knobel wrote and sold volumes of Hitlers diaries (non-existent), he thought it was just another job. However, when sleazy journalist Hermann Willie learns of the diaries, he quickly realizes their potential value... and Knobel is quickly in over his head. As the pressure builds and Knobel is forced to provide more and more volumes of fake diaries, he finds himself acting more and more like the man whose life he is rewriting. The film is a messy and hilarious satire, poking fun not only at the events and characters involved in the hoax (which is only thinly disguised in the film), but at the discomfort that Germany has with its troubled past.
