Movie: The Children of Leningradsky (2005)
Film Synopsis:
Since the fall of the iron curtain around four million children have found themselves living on the streets in the countries of the former Soviet Union. On the streets of Moscow alone there are more than 30,000 surviving this way at the moment. Documentary filmmakers concentrated on the community of homeless children living hand to mouth at Moscows Leningradsky railway station. Eight-year-old Sasha, eleven-year-old Kristina, thirteen-year-old Misha and ten-year-old Andrej all dream of living in a communal house. They spend winter nights trying to stay warm by huddled together in hot water pipes and most of their days are spent begging. Andrej has found himself here due to disagreements with his family. Kristina was driven to this way of life by her stepmothers hatred and twelve-year-old Roma by the regular beatings she received from her perpetually drunk father.
